Nathan Gumb

Coach Nathan Gumb, an avid sports enthusiast started his coaching career with youth soccer where his passion was sparked for the importance of getting kids to see the best in themselves.  From 2010 to 2018 this passion took him on a journey supporting his son’s desire to play college baseball.   In 2018, this passion and experience lead to becoming the assistant varsity baseball Coach at Hoover High School in San Diego, California.  For those baseball fans, this is the same high school where Ted Williams played baseball.

In 2018, American Legion Baseball also started back up in San Diego County after a 30 plus year hiatus.  In 2022, Coach Gumb’s Post 492 Panthers won the District 5 Tournament held at California State University San Marcos and went on to compete at the State of California Championship Tournament held at California State University Fresno.

Coach Gumb believes in a “no pay to play” philosophy where if there is a student athlete that has the want and desire to be an athlete, money should not be the barrier to pursuing that desire.

Coach Gumb attended high school at Lincoln Southeast High School prior to joining the United States Navy where he met his wife of 30 years and then living in Northern California, Boston and settling in San Diego, California to raise their son.   Coach Gumb’s passion for working with student-athletes and the importance of fostering an educational-based athletic environment where they can excel as both athletes and humans has led him to a career change and is currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.  Further training on hitting mechanics has been developed through volunteering and coaching from Ryan Lehr of The Pure Swing and his mentor Reggie Smith through participation in The Pure Swing Hitting Clinics.

Coach Gumb and his wife moved to Lincoln in the Fall 2022.  They have one son who graduated College and Commissioned as an Officer in the United States Army; currently serving OCONUS.
